We're Moving....come check us out!

Exciting news! Sweet & Sour Goodies would like to let you know that we have now launched our brand new website. It's still the same address www.sweetandsourgoodies.com, but there is a whole new look and feel!!
I've been a little behind in my posts (okay ALOT behind), but for good reason. We needed to recover from Maker Faire, we were launching the new site, and then getting ready for Renegade in L.A. Woohoo!! I'll definitely post some new pictures from our Maker Faire event, so stay tuned.
Also, please visit the new site and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from you!

Maker Faire 2009

I just got the amazing news that Sweet & Sour Goodies will be a vendor at Bazaar Bizarre at Maker Faire 2009. Maker Faire will be in the Bay area on May 30th- May 31st. This will be a huge 2 day event and I am so excited to be a part of it.

So now the game plan is to sew like crazy and make stuff every moment of the day-well, most of the day. I still need to sleep and hang with the hubs and the pups.
"Yippeee!! Sweet & Sour Goodies is going to Maker Faire!!"

Plush You 2009

Great News!!
Sweet and Sour Goodies has been selected to take part in this year's Plush You! show at Schmancy in Seattle.
"Plush You! is an annual exhibit that showcases plush creations from artists all over the globe. The first show was held at Schmancy in downtown Seattle in 2005. Since then, Plush You has grown tremendously. With a recent book from F+W Publications, an enormous list of applicants each year, as well as a second, 2008 show scheduled at Double Punch Gallery in San Francisco -- Plush You continues to show the world the impressive and boundless possibilities of plush!"
(from the Plush You! site)
Well, I am super excited to be considered for this event (there are so many innovative and creative plush artists out there-so this is an honor) and it will be my very first gallery showing! Yippee!!
Here are some important dates for you to take note of:
Friday, October 9th Opening at Schmancy, Fancy and Nancy
Saturday, October 10th and 11th Opening at Capital Hill/Faythe Levine

Inspiration from within.....

I've always been quite partial to Gnomes (maybe because I'm small in stature and I find Gnomes to be comforting and relatable). Anyway, I remembered a Halloween photo from two years ago that I thought would be funny to post for this blog entry. You can say that it was my inspiration for this new Gnome Doll.....
This was my costume in 2007.
Nuff said.

Have a Great Week!

New Gnomes and Lumberjacks!!!

This weekend I've been busy working on some re-orders for some shops and Etsy, making birthday gifts for my adorable niece and nephew, and creating these two new characters:

I've had sketches for these two dolls for a while now, but I never had the time to sit down and make them. I'm pretty pleased with the end result. I just need to make an ax for the lumberjack.

The Gnome and the Lumberjack will be available in my Etsy shop!!

Gnomes $25.00

Lumberjack $25.00
Stay tuned for more new dolls!! And the launch of my new site in May!!

"Hold me closer....Tony Danza....."

Here's the newest doll : The "Sour" Ballerina
This doll design brings back fond memories of childhood ballet classes. My mom enrolled my sister and I at The Ballet Conservatory when I was 6 and she was 8. We loved it!
The tutu was very fun to make!
This doll will soon be available in my etsy store, so keep checking back.

Just add water....and they multiply!!

Oh wait...that happens to Gremlins....
Since the weather here in San Diego has been rainy (blah!) and gloomy I decided to stay in and work on some more Nerd dolls. They are travelling in packs now!!
This year I will be in the process of expanding the doll selections and I want to jazz up some of my original designs. So here's what I came up with...take a look!

I just thought I'd add a few quirky details to the new dolls like suspenders and a sweater vest.
He looks like he'd run for office or be the president of the debate team....."How Dreamy" ;)

This guy looks like he would have alot of allergies....like me ;(

The new Nerd Dolls will be available in my Etsy store. I may even have a 3 pack set at a discounted price....Exciting!
I'm hoping the weather will clear up and the rain will stop soon. The hubster, the doggies and I are cooped up all day....but I do get more work done so that's a plus!
Stay Dry Sour Friends!!

Yudu...Yes, I do!!

So I usually do not make HUGE purchases, but after ALOT of research I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Yudu Screen-printing Machine. I've been wanting to get into screen-printing my own paper goods, tote bags and tees so I thought that this would be a good step in the right direction.
Here are all the things that will be included with my Yudu:
Screen printing machine - measures approx. 11-1/2"L x 32"W x 22"H (It is a mother of a machine!!)
3 blank ink-jet transparencies
2 emulsion sheets
Adult t-shirt platen
Platen adhesive sheet
Mesh screen
2 oz. black Yudu ink
Squeegee
Instructional DVD
(4) 15-watt bulbs, included
User manual
Now they do mention that you shouldn't use any other inks for this machine because it will ruin the screen. So I'll have to order more inks in various colors. Other than that I think this will be a great investment. I did want to get a Gocco because I read so many wonderful things about that machine as well, but since its discontinuation they have been difficult to find for the right price and the bulbs must be replaced quite frequently.....maybe I'll get one a bit later, but for now I'll stick to the Yudu.
Once I start working on some projects I'll be sure to post pictures and a better review of its quality. Also, if you haven't already, be sure to enter a comment for the Luchador giveaway-the winner will be announced Monday!!
Bye for now!

A Few of my Favorite Things....

Just a little window shopping. Here are some items that are available on Etsy from some creative designers and artists.

Sweet Meats Porky Chop

These plush items are so adorable! I purchased a T-Bone Plush Steak for my hubby and he loved it! My next purchase from Sweet Meats would have to be the ham bone. You can also request to have your meat deli wrapped....simple, genius, gotta love it!

I love this "La Fleur" sweater coat. So chic and versatile. I may have to put this on my birthday wish list.

I have to say that my very first purchase from Etsy were two prints from Ashley. I fell in love with her style and her work has a quirkiness that makes me smile (I'm rhyming). I have two of her prints on my desk at work. I'm sure I'll get more in the future.

These little cloche caps are so, so hip! Liza is based in Portland and most of her items are custom to order. She is very talented and her work is quite innovative.

Ilee Papergoods

If I could do letterpress work I would. Maybe I'll make that a goal of mine for the future. Letterpress is timeless and elegant. I purchased a few items from Ilee and her work is exquisite. Her calendars make great gifts!

Bird Nerd

Birds are so HOT right now. (Imagine me saying this in a very deep voice). Bird Nerd's screen printed birds are just the Shiz! I gotta get some!

Happy Shopping!
